Spend time at shopping malls is one of the favourite past time among the local.
There are lots of shopping malls in Singapore and two of the Singapore’s largest mall operator are CapitaLand Mall Asia and Frasers Centrepoint. Both operators have introduced loyalty and rewards programme that rewards shoppers with points when they make purchases at their malls in Singapore.
Where to shop?
CapitaLand Mall Asia (CMA) has 15 participating malls, while Frasers Centrepoint Malls has 12 participating malls across Singapore. In term of location, these malls are in the city area, Orchard Road and various neighbourhoods. They are well located and easily accessible.
A plus point for Frasers Rewards because they have a lower minimum purchase value (which is $10) to earn a point.
How to earn points
You need to scan and upload receipt through their respective mobile app within 24 hours. Your points will be awarded 7 working days after receipts are verified.
Both programmes give you double points during your Birthday month.
CapitaStar has an advantage as they have partnered with PAssion Card and American Express to allow you to earn extra points.
To speed up point accumulation, it’s best to link up your PAssion Card with CapitaStar, which enable you to earn extra 1.5X STAR$. If you pay your shopping with American Express issued CapitaCard, you would earn extra 3X STAR$ up-to 10X STAR$.
How much your point worth?
Both rewards programme yield the same exchange rate.
For CAPITASTAR, you can redeem your STAR$ for CapitaVouchers, while Frasers Rewards is converting Frasers Points to Frasers Rewards Gift Card.
The return rate for CAPITASTAR is as low as 0.1%.
5,000 STAR$ = $5 CapitaVoucher
If you spend $5,000 on supermarkets and food courts to earn 5,000 STAR$, the rate will be 0.1% (5/5000).
Or if you spend $1,000 (5X STAR$, without factor in the bonus points), you will get back $5, which the rate is 0.5% (5/1000).
As for Frasers Rewards, the return rate is also low as 0.1%.
Every 500 Frasers Points = 0.5% rebates (loaded into Frasers Rewards Gift Card) which equivalent to $2.50
Same example as above, spend $2,500 on supermarkets to earn 500 Frasers Points = 0.1%
Or spend $500 on non-supermarket purchases to earn 500 Frasers Points = 0.5%
I think to spend $500 in a year (or monthly $42 average) at participating Frasers Centrepoint Malls is very possible.
Lastly, we look at validation period and point expiration.
For CapitaStar, STAR$ earned in a calendar year will expire on the 31 December of that year. However, shoppers are given an additional six months´ grace period to redeem their STAR$.
For Frasers Points, you can redeem them for rebates anytime from 1 October of the current year to 31 December of the following year.
Both programs offer similar rewards so I would suggest to sign-up both CAPITASTAR and Frasers Rewards. Depending on where you live or your favourite shopping malls, just focus on earning points from one program as fast as possible.
